Everything you need to know about 11 Maths

2020 is a year to remember. With the Corona Virus pandemic going on, there have been major changes in Class 11 and Class 12th students’ Academics. One significant change has been the introduction of Applied Mathematics as a subject for Class 11 and Class 12 students. The CBSE Class 11 basics of financial mathematics is a step ahead for Advanced Mathematics.

Here we will understand the chapter-wise syllabus for CBSE Class 11 maths.

Unit 1

Chapter 1- Sets (14 periods)

This chapter covers all terminologies of Sets and its mathematical application. It includes Equal sets, subsets, Subsets of a set of real numbers, Power set, Universal set, Venn diagrams, Union and Intersection of sets, and more.

Chapter 2- Relations and Functions (15 periods)

This consists of a relation existing between two functions.  It includes Ordered pairs, Cartesian product of sets, Real valued functions, domain and range of these functions, and more.

Chapter 3-Trigonometric Functions (14 periods)

Understanding angles and sides with radians comes under Trigonometry. It is a very important subject having an advanced level in further classes.

Unit 2

Chapter 1- Complex Numbers and Quadratic equations (10 periods)

Is there any number below or above the number line? What is an equation and solutions to quadratic equations? All this will be learned in this chapter.

Chapter 2- Linear Inequalities (15 periods)

Graphical solution and interpretation of number line variables, algebraic solutions, and linear Inequalities would be studied in this chapter.

Chapter 3- Permutations and Combinations (8 periods)

It is among the most important topics for maths and quants in further studies. What all things can have different combinations and permutations and how they can be done using formulas is understood in this chapter.

Chapter 4- Sequence and Series (8 periods)

Learning of Arithmetic and Geometric Progression, mean and the relation between them.

Unit 3

Chapter 1- Straight Lines (8 periods)

Joining two points with the shortest distance is through straight lines. So this chapter will make you understand about basics and all the equations of straight lines and how the distance is calculated from a specific point.

Chapter 2- Conic Sections (15 periods)

You will understand all the aspects of cones like a parabola, ellipse, hyperbola, etc., along with their properties and equations.

Chapter 3- Introduction to 3-Dimensional Geometry (10 periods)

Geometry came from the Greek work geometron, meaning studying all the figures and shapes and analyzing them. The chapter will take you through 3 dimensions, coordinate axes and planes, and distance between 2 points.

Unit 4

Chapter 1- Limits and Derivatives (30 periods)

It is a tricky yet very important chapter to understand for higher studies. What derivative is all about, how it is applied, derivative of sum and its difference, the derivative of polynomial and trigonometric functions, and more would be studied in this chapter.

Unit 5

Chapter 1- Statistics (11 periods)

Statistics is present everywhere and is used in day to day life. Calculating range, mean, variance, standard deviation, etc. comes under statistics.

Chapter 2- Probability (10 periods)

Probability is yet again the most important chapter. Based on the simple theory of how much probable chance there is for an event to happen? CBSE class 11 applied Maths probability is a step for in-depth study in higher classes.

The CBSE class, 11 maths paper, would be of 3 hours having a total of 100 marks- 80 from syllabus and 20 from the internal assessment.
